Review Process: Information for authors
Important information on the review process procedure can be found below. All articles and/or educational material are required to pass the review process prior to activation.
Assigning the Reviewer
The assignment of a reviewer to a submitted article occurs per a rotation system. This means that your article or educational material can be assigned to up to 3 subjects. Subject selection is hierarchical in order to form a list of subjects sorted by relevance or appropriateness to each field. An article on “pruritus” (“itch”), for example, could first be assigned to dermatology and then to psychosomatic medicine (depending on the article’s focus).
A list of reviewers is produced by your hierarchical list of subjects, from which the reviewer with the most relevant or appropriate field receives a review request.
During the review process, you can track the status of your contribution to GenderMed-Wiki, although if a reviewer has not yet accepted your request, the article will be listed as “pending”. If the reviewer declines the review request, the status is changed to “review declined”. This status does not mean that your article was actually refused publication, but that a new review request has been sent to the next reviewer. Once a reviewer has begun to review it, the status is changed to “review in process”, thus indicating that the review process has begun. It can take up to 4 weeks for a reply to arrive per e-mail.
As soon as the review process is completed, you will receive an e-mail notifying you that your article has finished the review process: if the reviewer has written notes or recommended changes to the text, they can be found in said e-mail. You will then be able to make your changes online. If you disagree with the recommended changes, an editorial board will decide if your article can still be published. The editorial board reviews the formal aspects of each submitted article. We therefore ask you to use gender-sensitive language and comply with copyright laws. You will be informed per e-mail if, for various reasons, your article could not be activated (with regards to content and/or irremediable deficits). Your article will usually be published within six weeks after submission.
